Political youth activists commit to peace in Northern region

By: Murtala Issah
Political youth activists in the Northern region have built capacity to promote sustainable peace in the area.
The initiative is a collaboration between the Northern Regional Peace Council and the Tamale Archdiocesan Development Office of the Catholic Church, and seeks to encourage dialogue among young political actors.
The Inter-Youth Dialogue Committee is made up of youth groups from various political parties in the Northern Region.
Until its formation a few years ago, political youth groups in Tamale adopted militant approaches to addressing their intra-party and inter-party grievances. Since 2016, the groups has made significant progress in reducing clashes in the region.
A life patron of the committee, Alhaji Abdul Razak Saani, in an interview with the media, emphasized that “the Inter-Youth Dialogue Committee, has played a critical role in the peaceful atmosphere we saw in Tamale in 2016 and 2020, they engage each other now through dialogue and not violence.”
Political youth activists in the Northern region have built capacity to promote sustainable peace in the area.
With funding from the Strengthening Capacities for Peaceful Coexistence (SCOPE), the Tamale Diocese in collaboration with the Peace Council, organised a two day non violent sensitization workshop for sixty political party aligned youth leaders in Tamale.
