President Akufo-Addo to hold emergency meeting with leadership of Parliament

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has requested to meet the leadership of Parliament on Monday, March 16, 2020, at the presidency at 3pm.

The invitation to the emergency meeting was announced on the floor of Parliament by the Speaker, Professor Aaron Mike Ocquaye at the commencement of public business at 11am on Monday morning.

“The President asked to meet the Speaker and the Leadership of the House immediately after adjournment.”

It is unclear, as to what prompted the impromptu meeting, but it’s believed to be related to Coronavirus outbreak and his last night directive to ban public gathering effective from Monday, March 16, 2020.

It is also speculated that, the President may want to call on Parliament to suspend the first meeting of The House to avert the spread of the virus.

Ghana has recorded 6 confirmed cases across of COVID-19.
