The Commission of Inquiry into violence during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election has rejected an application to have some witnesses cross-examined.
Rejecting the application, Chairman of the Commission, Justice Emile Short said granting it would set a “dangerous precedent” in the work of the Commission of inquiry. Dominic Ayine, Council for NDC Parliamentary candidate Delali K.Brempong and Ningo-Prampram MP Sam George, filed his application to cross-examine other witnesses whose testimonies touched on his clients.
The lawyer, and a former deputy Attorney-General expressed fears that the testimonies could lead to findings which could affect the political careers of his clients and, therefore, needed to be challenged. But reading out the commission’s ruling, Justice Short said the rules on Commission of Inquiry Practice and Procedure gives the power to re-examine witnesses to the commission’s counsel.
Meanwhile, Mr Emile Short accused MP for Ningo Prampram Sam George of hiding vital information from the commission. But in a reaction, Mr Sam George accused the police of failing to take his statement after he was assaulted a month ago.
