Members of Parliament are expected to return to the Chamber to begin the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
The Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic is set to continue legislative business in a session expected to focus on key government policies and programs aimed at addressing national development priorities.
Issues expected to feature prominently include economic growth measures, after the last session focused on economic stabilization. Social interventions and sector-specific reforms are also expected to feature heavily in this Second Session.
Before the First Session went into recess, issues such as the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill and how effectively galamsey should be tackled drew public attention and were latched onto by the Minority in Parliament. With the Legislature returning after the Christmas break, or the December 2025 recess which ended the First Session, the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill, which is officially known as the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, and issues regarding illegal mining, also known as the anti-galamsey fight, are expected to take center stage in the Second Session.
The resumption of sitting is anticipated to reignite intense debate and deliberations on these matters as lawmakers work to advance the government’s legislative agenda while holding the Executive accountable.
