Political analyst and private legal practitioner Austin Kwabena Brako-Powers has called on the Attorney General, Dr Dominic Ayine, to appeal the court’s decision to acquit and discharge former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, stating that although he respects the court’s reasoning, he disagrees with the outcome.
“The judgement in my mind is sound but unsatisfactory,” he said, adding “which is why I am one of those people saying the Attorney General must appeal the decision.”
He explained that while the legal reasoning of the court may be coherent, he believes the public interest and the state’s case warrant a review by a higher court.
“Where there are questions of law and public finance involved, it is important that we test the decision at the Supreme Court,” Mr. Brako-Powers added during a panel discussion on Current Agenda on Saturday, August 1, 2026.
The Court of Appeal on Thursday, July 30, 2026, acquitted and discharged former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu after overturning her conviction.
The appellate court acquitted and discharged Ms Tamakloe-Attionu on all charges after finding that the prosecution had failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Thursday, July 30, 2026, Attorney General Dr Dominic Ayine said the state would appeal the judgment.
Supporting that position, Mr. Brako-Powers said an appeal would help clarify the law on accountability in public office. “It is not about any individual. It is about ensuring that the law is properly interpreted where public funds are concerned,” he said.
