Six nominees of the President for the portfolios of Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCE’s) out of the 18 in the Volta Region have been endorsed by Assembly Members in their respective Municipalities and Districts.

They are the nominees for Kpando and Hohoe Municipalities, North and South Dayi, Afadjato South and Ho West Districts.

The 2-day exercise to endorse the 6 nominees as Municipal and District Chief Executives in their localities was relatively peaceful.

New entrants for the Kpando Municipal, Geoffrey Badasu, South Dayi District, Godwin Dzadzawa and Ho West District, Ernest Apau who is serving a 2nd term secured 100% of the total votes cast by the Assembly Members present.

However, the DCE’s for North Dayi, Edmond Atta Kudzo and Afadjato South, James Flolu who are serving their 2nd terms had 94 and 83% each of the total votes cast, while new entrant for Hohoe Municipal, Noble Awumey secured 70 percent of the total votes.

In the case of North Dayi 32 out of the 34 Assembly Members voted yes for Edmond Atta Kudzo who is also the Dean of Municipal and District Chief Executives in the Volta Region.

Two rejected ballots were recorded.

Mr Atta Kudzo urged the Assembly Members to bury their differences to rally behind him in his ultimate quest to enhance the living standards of the people of North Dayi.

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Lesta who was impressed with the outcome of events on behalf of President Akufo-Addo thanked the Assembly Members and gave the assurance that development projects would resume in earnest in the region.

He urged the Assembly Members in the 12 other localities to endorse their nominees for the sake of development which has not been significant due to the absence of substantive Municipal and District Chief Executives.

Confirmation of the 12 other nominees is expected next week.
