Member of Parliament for Twifo Atti Morkwa Constituency in the Central Region, David T.D Vondee has expressed his dissatisfaction with the address by President Akufo-Addo, claiming the president did not read the true state of the nation address.

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on March 8, 2023, presented the state of the nation address to the Parliament of Ghana which is a constitutional duty deemed to be fulfilled by the president.

In his reaction and response to the address by the President, the Member of Parliament stated that lots of truth which reflect the true state of the country were missing in the speech by President Akufo-Addo. He made these statements in an interview with GBC’s Edward Nyarko.

According to him, issues like the debt unsustainability, where the country’s debt record has now reached GHs580 billion from GHs120 billion, bank exchange rates rising from 3.9% to 13.9%, failed agenda 111, failed One District One Factory, the current economic hardship coupled with high fuel prices and the national cathedral projects, which truly reflect the current state of Ghana were not captured in the address.

He further added that the President rather blamed Covid-19 and the Russian – Ukrainian war for the bad economic situation in the country. He stressed that, even though covid came to give the economy some bedridden posture, it still raked in over $3 billion to Ghana alone yet the same covid is blamed for everything that has resulted in the poor management of the country’s economy.
