Speaker of Parliament donates half of three months salary to Covid-19 Trust Fund

The Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye has donated half of his monthly salary for three months to the Covid-19 National Trust Fund, established by President Akufo-Addo, to help the vulnerable infected by the virus.

Parliament is also donating two hundred thousand Ghana Cedis to the Fund. This is contained in a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs at Parliament, Kate Addo.

The statement, urged Parliamentarians and other staff of the Legislature, to contribute to the Fund to help the fight against the coronavirus. It said the Speaker has been instrumental in preventing a possible spread of the virus in Parliament.

Meanwhile Parliament yesterday passed the Covid-19 National Trust Fund 2020 Bill into Law under a certificate of urgency.

The Bill seeks to give legal backing to the establishment of the Covid-19 National Trust Fund, which is intended to complement the efforts of Government in the fight against the disease.
