The emergence of vigilantism in Ghana is said to be pointing out dire consequences if the situation is not checked.

The Director of Communication of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mrs. Joyce Afutu, speaking on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme ‘Focus’ earlier this week, called on political parties to disband vigilante groups and safeguard the rule of law.

Also on the programme was a Security Analyst, Adam Bonah who asked the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and Civil Society Organisations to make arrangements to formalize security within political parties and advocate a unit which will monitor security groups under political parties.

Mr. Bonah said the Police Service can only work effectively if it is independent and not over politicised.

Meanwhile, a Governance Expert, Professor Emmanuel Asiamah stated that Ghana’s security has issues and it will be dangerous to expose her security to vigilante groups.
