President Akufo-Addo Breaks Ground For The Start Of Kufuor Estates @ Oyoko Akrofuom

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has broken the ground for commencement of work on a 125-apartment Estate at Oyoko Akrofuom in the Atwima Nwabiagya North district of the Ashanti region.
Addressing the chiefs and people of Oyoko Akrofuom, President Akufo-Akufo-Addo described the christening of the Estate after former President John Agyekum Kufuor, as a befitting recognition and an honour on the elder Statesman for his immense contribution to the development of the country.
The project is being undertaken by the State Housing Company as the first phase of the company’s housing project in the Ashanti region this year.
The second phase will comprise one thousand housing units for staff of the Ghana Health Service at Sawua in the Bosomtwe district to complement the new Ashanti regional Hospital being built in that town.
A total of 125 apartment of two and three bed rooms are to be delivered within the shortest possible time and its being executed by a local construction firm.
During the project duration, about four thousand direct and indirect jobs are to be created for mostly the local people.
The Managing Director of the State Housing Company, Kwabena Ampofo Appiah, said the company has started work on many other housing projects in parts of the country towards addressing the housing problems for particularly public servants such as staff of the Ghana Immigration Service.
He disclosed that following a rigorous collection of the company’s debt in rents and royalties owed by occupants of its apartments, State Housing Company has been able to generate improve on its revenue base this year, and that it will be able to pay dividend to the government.
A Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Freda Prempeh, said the country is presently facing a housing deficit of about one point-seven million which requires the provision of about 150 thousand of the units annually so as to bridge the gap within the medium term. She disclosed that, government plans to build 200 thousand housing units for low income earners within the next five years starting from 2019.
President Akufo-Addo described the naming of the Estate after former President Kufuor as very appropriate as a recognition of his contribution to the national development.
The President took advantage of the opportunity to assure the people of the Ashanti region, especially those in the Atwima Nwabiagya districts that in the coming weeks, the Finance Minister will release 27 million Dollars to the Contractor working on the Sofoline Interchange and dualization of a portion of the Sunyani road for him to resume work on the project.
