President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo  has tasked the Bank of Ghana to make sure Ghana’s financial sector remains robust for global integration by ensuring compliance with international standards.

Speaking in Accra at the 25th SWIFT Africa regional conference,  the President called for concerted efforts in fighting the increasing cases of cyber attack on digital platform or risk erroding the confidence in the financial payment system.

The SWIFT African Regional Conference  is an annual event which brings together over 900 high senior financial professionals from across the continent to discuss Africa’s evolving payments landscape, how the financial industry is embracing and delivering change for its customers, and how to manage risk in an increasingly digitised world.

This year’s agenda  looks at how Africa’s financial industry is evolving. The international payments landscape is undergoing significant change as disruptive technologies enter the payments market and put pressure on traditional banking practices.

President Akufo-Addo mentioned intervention put in place by government to digitise the economy.

These include introduction of paperless port system, National ID card, mobile money interoperability among others.

He said government will continue embrace technology and called on relevant stakeholders to help protect the cyberspace.

He said government has committed itself to having a system to manage all receipt and payment by 2020.

The three (3)-days conference is focusing on establishing a digital economy among member states.
