After four colourful days of celebrating the United Kingdom and Ghana’s common values and shared future, the Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall ended their State Visit to Ghana on Tuesday, November, 6.
A statement issued by the British High Commission, in Accra, said at the Kotoka International Airport, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife, Hajia Samira Bawumia, with a Guard of Honour, bid the Royals farewell on behalf of Ghana.
It said they would be in Nigeria from November 6 to 8 , on the last leg of their West African tour.
The statement said that over the course of the visit, the Royals participated in and attended several events; highlighting a future-focused bilateral relationship, and a renewal of Ghana’s place in the Commonwealth.
It said among these were a commemorative event at the Commonwealth War Graves, an Akwaaba Reception with Brit-Ghanaians and other Dignitaries, as well as a visit to Kumasi; featuring a Grand Akwasidae Durbar with the Asantehene.
It said The Prince of Wales delivered a Public Speech at the Accra International Conference Centre on the Commonwealth, focused on “Towards a Common Future”.
He also attended key events in line with this future focus, on Agro-forestry, plastics pollution and environmental sustainability.
It said the Duchess of Cornwall also launched the Queen’s Essay Competition, which was the first time in Africa; and joined Ghanaian
school children at a Commonwealth Big Lunch – celebrating our people-to-people ties.
