The Federation of Persons with Disability in the Bono Region has called on the National Identification Authority (NIA) to make Registration Centres more accessible and friendly to people with Disabilities to acquire Ghana Cards.

According to the Bono Regional Vice President, Sirina Mahamadu, in an interview with Radio Ghana, most of their members are unable to participate in the Ghana Card acquisition process due to difficulties at the centers.

She mentioned no documents in Braille form and no sign language interpreters to help the visually and hearing impaired as some of the challenges.

The National Identification Authority (NIA) started its mass registration for the Ghana Card in Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, Upper East and Upper West Regions on November 8-2019.

The registration which was supposed to end on November 23, has been extended to Saturday 30th November 2019.

Some residents in Sunyani have been complaining about the slow pace of the registration process and other challenges at the centers.

The Federation of Persons With Disability in the Bono Region for example are not happy about how some of their members are being treated at some centers.

According to the Bono Regional Vice President of the Federation, Ms. Sirina Mahamadu most of their members are disadvantaged due to the challenges encountered.

She said for instance the absence of sign language interpreters and documents in Braille among others are some of the challenges.

While commending some of the centres, Ms. Sirina mentioned Akpetesi in Berekum and Sunyani Municipal Assembly as some of the centres with challenges.

Sirina Mahamadu reiterated her calls for remedial action to make the Ghana Card acquisition process easy for the Disabled.

Efforts to get the PRO of the National Identification Authority to respond to the concerns raised proved futile.
