Rains wreak havoc in parts of Accra

Last night rains left portions of the Kwame Nkrumah Circle flooded.

Passengers were compelled to alight from their vehicles and walk through the water, while other vehicles were forced to change their routes.

The Odaw river overflowed as a result of the downpour, while parts of the Las Palmas restaurant area at Abeka lapaz were partially submerged.
The road linking the Ring Road West towards Ako Adjei interchange also flooded, hindering vehicular movement for sometime.
The Meteorological Service Department had earlier predicted thunderstorms and downpours as the country moves into the rainy season.
A mother and her child are feared dead after the rains swept them away around Mataheko.
It is not clear exactly what happened but according to eyewitnesses the woman and her husband were moving out of the vicinity in their car during the rains when the untarred road they were using got flooded.
They moved out of the car with their child and suddenly got swept away by the floods.
The husband was however saved by some passers by.
A young man believed to be in his thirties was also found dead at Awudome in Accra after the downpour.
Reports say the lifeless body was found near a drain in the area.
The Ambulance service and the Police arrived at the scene few minutes after the body was found and conveyed it to the morgue.
A resident of the area said the deceased was earlier seen directing traffic.
Meanwhile,Power Distribution Company (PDS) has blamed outages in parts of Accra and its environs on the downpour.
In a release shared on its Facebook page, PDS assured power consumers that its engineers are working to rectify the faults and restore power supply.
