A Researcher at the Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping Center (KAIPC), Dr. Festus Kofi Aubyn has attributed the recent violence during the Ayawaso West Wougon by-election to the recruitment and appointment process in the country’s security services.

Speaking on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme, ‘Talking Point’, Dr. Aubyn said the issue is a structural one since most people are recruited and appointed into the service by the executive and this create some level of loyalty to these officials.

Dr. Oduro Osae UNDP Technical Advisor at the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, for his part said the issue at hand was as a result of poor coordination among the security personnel.

He however, emphasised the need for proper coordination and collaboration to avoid such occurrences in future elections.

The Acting Executive Secretary of the National Peace Council, George Amo also urged the media to cross check their facts before reporting on any issue.

He said the media, especially the privately-owned ones, should be conflict-sensitive and know what to report and at which time to do so.
