Former Government Spokesperson on Governance, Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah has called on President John Dramani Mahama to ensure a massive clamp down on sex workers as rate becomes alarming.
“The prostitutes in the country are many, the number keeps growing, they should clamp them down”, he said.
During an interview on GTV breakfast show on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, Dr. Danquah urged the President to “turn his attention to the growing number of prostitutes” operating in the capital and other urban centres.
He revealed that many of the women he interviews for his research are recent arrivals from neighbouring Nigeria, often brought into Ghana under short‑term contracts, and that their presence is increasingly visible in areas such as OSU, East Legon, and other high‑traffic neighbourhoods.
“I wish that the President also takes his attention to the growing number of prostitutes in this country. There are a lot of female prostitutes in this country, which is not good.
People bring them into this country under contract, I know because I engage them as a researcher. I talk to them every single day”, he revealed.
According to him, the issue should be addressed with the same urgency as the government’s recent focus on LGBTQI+ rights which the President has assured that he will sign once approved by Parliament.
