The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry has announced that the planned increase in sachet water prices will not take effect as earlier scheduled, following discussions with industry players.

In a press release issued on Monday, April 6, 2026, the Ministry said consumers can continue to buy sachet water at the current price. It also praised the Ghana Plastic Manufacturers Association (GPMA) and the National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers (NASPAWAP) for suspending the proposed price adjustment.

“The Ministry assures the public that the price of sachet water will not increase today,” the statement said.

NASPAWAP had earlier announced plans to raise prices, citing a global shortage of polymers and rising production costs linked to ongoing geopolitical tensions, especially the conflict in Iran. The association proposed new prices of GH¢8 at the factory level and up to GH¢15 at retail.

However, the Ministry said the suspension shows government’s commitment to protecting consumers and maintaining stability in the market.

To address the concerns of producers, the Ministry has scheduled a meeting with leaders of GPMA and NASPAWAP on Wednesday, April 8, to find a lasting solution to the challenges facing the sector.

The Ministry added that it remains committed to working with all stakeholders to resolve issues quickly and ensure price stability.

The latest decision brings temporary relief to consumers, as discussions continue on how to balance rising production costs with the affordability of sachet water, which remains a major source of drinking water for many households across Ghana.
