Security Analyst and Executive Director for Africa Centre for Security and Counterterrorism, Emmanuel Kotin has expressed concern for the President, John Mahama’s safety. According to him, the country should be working on getting a new presidential jet for President Mahama.

During an interview on GBC’s show, ‘Focus’ on November 12, 2025, Mr. Kotin stated that the president’s safety is paramount and a new jet is necessary citing that politics should be put aside in this matter.

“Let us put aside the politics and get the President a presidential jet, we cannot risk his life by having him use commercial flights,” he said.

However, Member of Parliament, MP for Afadjato South, Frank Afriyie expressed disagreement citing pressing national issues like unpaid nurses and other priority areas that need funding.

“If the country gets a new aircraft now, what signal are we sending to Ghanaians?” he asked.

This was sparked by the August 6 helicopter crash that killed eight people, including two ministers. The crash report read on November 11, 2025 by a member of the investigation committee, Captain Paul Fordjour revealed the helicopter lacked avionic safety enhancement prompting calls for improved aviation safety.
