Sefwi Wiawso marks maiden durbar

The Chiefs and People of Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North region have held a colourful durbar to mark a successful referendum for the creation of a new region. It brought together all the six Paramouncies: Anhwiaso, Chirano, Dadieso, Bekwai Aowin and Sefwi Wiawso.

The Western North Regional Minister, Kingsley Aboagye-Gyedu, commended the people for their tremendous contribution towards the creation of the Western North region. He assured them of the government’s readiness to help improve the area through the construction of a Regional Coordinating Council and other departmental structures.

President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi, commended government for creating the region to ease the burden of travelling to Sekondi Takoradi to perform official duties. He implored traditional rulers to shun chieftaincy and land disputes and unify to enhance the development of the Western North Region.

Minister In-Charge of National Security, Albert Kan Dapaah, advised the Chiefs and elders to maintain a united front in pursuit of development and spoke of future developments.
Awards were presented to citizens who made outstanding contributions towards the Creation of the Western North Region. President Akuffo-Addo was also honoured in absentia.
