Sierra Leone President lauds Ghana's Free SHS Policy

President of Sierra Leone Julius Maada Bio has praised Ghana’s free SHS policy calling on other Africa countries to emulate.

He said he was motivated by Ghana’s example in his effort of implementing Free SHS in his country.

Mr. Bio announced this at the Jubilee House as part of his two day official visit to Ghana. The two countries also entered into agreement to boost trade relations between the two countries.

Ghana has also pledged to offer technical assistance to Sierra Leon in the area of technical and vocational education training and will work with the Government of Sierra Leone on the modalities for implementing the free SHS.

The Visit by Julius Maada Bio is the first since assumption of power seven months ago. The visit is to thank Ghana for the support during his country fight against Ebola.

The two Presidents addressed a joint press conference. President Bio praised Ghana’s implementation of the free SHS policy and said Sierra Leone is also doing same.

President Maada Bio expressed appreciation for the capacity development assistance that Ghana is providing, in collaboration with Médicins Sans Frontières, for nurses from Sierra Leone who were undergoing top-up training in Ghana.

He called for strengthened bilateral relations between the countries to help alleviate poverty.

President Bio congratulated President Akufo-Addo for the implementation of the free SHS and urged him to overcome every obstacle that may occur as a result of the implementation.

A communique issued at the end of the Visit to the Jubilee House both leaders discussed the fisheries sector of the two countries and expressed the need for greater cooperation in the sector and as well as enhanced collaboration within international fora such as the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas.

The leaders discussed the African Continental Free Trade Area and noted its immense benefits on trade expansion, job creation and national welfare gains for all African countries.
