Six die in motor accident at Obretema, near Suhum on Accra Kumasi Highway

Six people are confirmed dead in an accident that occurred at Obretema, near Suhum, on the Accra-Kumasi highway, in the Eastern Region, Tuesday, February 3.

According to reports, five died on the spot when a Mercedes Benz Cargo truck with registration number GE 5764-V that was being driven by 36-year-old, Bismark Boakye, heading towards Kumasi, lost control of the vehicle and collided with a Toyota Tacoma pick-up, carrying seven people with registration number GS 1312-11 in which the deceased were travelling, while the other died later at the Suhum Government Hospital.

According to the Eastern Regional MTTD Commander, Chief Superintendent Prince Jude, another victim, who survived the accident, is currently responding to treatment at the Suhum Government Hospital, while the dead have been deposited at the mortuary of the same hospital for autopsy.

Chief Sup. Jude said the cargo truck driver is assisting police in investigations into the accident.

He explained that the truck driver was carrying assorted goods from Accra heading towards Kumasi.

On reaching a section of the road at Obretema near Suhum, the driver lost control the vehicle, and in the process veered off his lane into the opposite lane where he crashed head-on with the Toyota Tacoma pick-up which was also coming from Kumasi.

Chief Sup. Jude said it took the intervention of personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and road safety management recovery truck, to remove the passengers who were trapped in the vehicles.
