The Ministry of Information on Monday, May 20, launched the sixth (6) edition of the National Policy Summit, which will be held at the Central Regional capital, Cape Coast.

The focus of this year’s summit is on fisheries and sanitation subsectors.

The sixth National Policy Summit is scheduled for Sunday, May 26, 2019, at 4pm while the full programme, comprising four parallel sessions in the morning and afternoon, kicks off on Monday, May 27, 2019 at 9am.

The summit will be held under the patronage of Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, Omanhene of Oguaa Traditional Area; Elizabeth Afoley Quaye, Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development; and Cecilia Abena Dapaah, Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, as the lead speakers.

Topics for discussions will include promoting a total national sanitation campaign, protecting fisheries and aquaculture for sustainable food supply and job creation.

The NSP is designed to bring together policymakers, business leaders, industry players, academia and civil society organisations, among many others, to brainstorm and interact on topical issues of national importance.

The policy summit is usually a two-day summit held every quarter in the year.

It is a unique platform and provides a stage for explaining government policies, plans and activities to the citizenry, as well as collect feedback for policy refinement.

Professor George Gyan Baffour

Minister of Planning and Development, Professor George Gyan Baffour, who launched the summit, said information sharing is critical in creating awareness, promoting transparency and participation in decision making at all levels of society.

This, he added, is critical for inclusive development and it is consistent with Sustainable Development Goal 17.

He was launching in the capacity as chairman of the High-Level Ministerial Committee on SDGs because of the theme of this National Policy Summit, ‘Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals with Emphasis on Fisheries and Sanitation’.

He said preventing sanitation-related flooding was a shared responsibility.
