The Socialist Forum of Ghana, SFG is calling on the government to immediately, impose a total lockdown of the country, to curtail further spread of the coronavirus.

A statement by the Convenor of the Accra Chapter of the Forum said projections painted globally and by the Presidential Advisor on Covid-19, Dr. Nsiah Asare, are gloomy. Government should, therefore, take immediate steps to avoid a national catastrophe.

It said the partial lockdown imposed on Greater Accra, parts of Central and Ashanti Regions, and mass random testing, both of which are no longer in place, were the only effective means of halting the spread of the virus.

While commending the government for the decision to establish testing centres across the country, the Socialist Forum says the surge in the number of infections and fatality rate, requires a two-fold approach to fight the coronavirus crisis.

Government should, therefore, prioritize the prevention of needless deaths and the preservation of the good health of citizens.
