The Bui Power Authority, BPA nearly doubled its solar generation capacity in 2025, while recording US$145.9 million in revenue and a net profit of US$66.2 million.
The Authority increased its solar generation capacity from 55 megawatts peak (MWp) to 105MWp, bringing its total installed generation portfolio to 404 megawatts of hydropower and 105MWp of solar energy.
The Authority’s financial performance also reflect improvements in its operations, with electricity generation generating US$145.9 million in revenue, recording a net profit of US$66.2 million for the year.
BPA also strengthened its asset base and improved several operational efficiency indicators during the reporting period.
Speaking at BPA Annual Stakeholders Meeting in Accra, Chief Executive of the Bui Power Authority, Ing. Kow Eduakwa Sam, said the Authority achieved these results despite significant leadership changes within Ghana’s energy sector during the year.
He noted that the changes affected the Ministry of Energy, the Board of Directors and Executive Management, but said BPA remained focused on its mandate.
“Despite these transitions, the Authority successfully adapted to the sector’s new strategic direction while maintaining operational stability,” Ing. Sam said.
According to him, the growth in renewable energy generation forms part of BPA’s broader strategy to diversify its generation portfolio and contribute to Ghana’s transition towards cleaner, cheaper and more sustainable energy generation systems.
The CEO said “the Authority would continue to focus on improving its financial sustainability while creating long-term value for the country.”
On workplace safety, Ing. Kow Eduakwa Sam said the protection of employees, contractors and host communities remain a major priority. He disclosed that, BPA recorded zero lost-time injuries during the year, attributing the achievement to the Authority’s strong safety culture and emphasis on accident and incident prevention.
Looking ahead, the Bui Power Authority says it will continue to expand its renewable energy projects as it seeks to strengthen Ghana’s energy security and support the country’s transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy systems, emphasizing that BPA will work to contribute to a more resilient and sustainable energy future” for Ghana.
