A 23-year-old Jamaican, Tafari Abednego Thompson, is in police custody for allegedly murdering his 59-year-old biological mother, Madam Mwassa Tafari, in cold blood at Obosomase-Akuapem in the Eastern Region.

The suspect believed to be mentally unstable, fled into the bush after committing the dastardly act on Sunday, May 14, which was Mother’s Day.

The youth in the town, after discovering the body of Madam Tafari, mobilised themselves and stormed the surrounding bush in search of the suspect, knowing he was the only one living with the deceased.

David Yeboah, who led the youth to arrest the suspect, explained that they found him at the boundary between Obosomase and Dodowa.

Mr. Yeboah added that Thompson used metal to mutilate his mother, disfiguring her face with multiple wounds.

According to the elder brother of the suspect, Tunyejah Tafari Thompson, his brother started behaving strangely about a year ago which caused several troubles for the family.

The body of Madam Mwassa Tarafi has been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary while the police have begun their investigation.
