The Member of Parliament for Manso Nkwantah, Tweneboah Kodua Fokuo has criticized the President John Mahama for leaving out current vital issues the country is facing out of the State of Nation Address 2025 (SONA).

The President John Dramani Mahama delivered the constitutionally mandated state of nation address on February 28 2026, updating citizens on key issues government is resolving and the country’s progress in the global economy.

Speaking on GBC’s Talking Point show, the legislator indicated that the President avoided the real issues citizens are facing in the SONA 2025.

“On the grounds we have issues, big issues that are not reflective of the numbers the President demonstrated to us, it is a State of the nation Address not a state of statistical figures, it should be about the reality on the ground” he said

The legislator added that although the statistics and data gathering was necessary, there should be more focus on resolving actual issues that the regular citizen faces on a day to day basis.

“so as you talk about statistical figures let Ghanaians understand that you live in the country as well and you know what is happening on the ground. Inflation has dropped this low but you know the realities electricity bills are high, transport fares are high if you go to the market rates haven’t come down as expected” he stated

The parliamentarian further compared statistics from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) in the third quarters of 2024 and 2025 casting doubt on the growth of the country’s economy.

“Third quarter 2024 real GDP growth NPP did 7%, third quarter 2025 under NDC is 5.5%, manufacturing third quarter 2024 was at 7.4% come to third quarter 2025 under NDC its 3.9% you see what I’m talking about when we’re masking all this with cedi and inflation”
