Special Report: Strawberries an aphrodisiac?

By: Yayra Lawoe

It is loaded with natural sugars and water that give us that happy feeling. From a nutritional standpoint, there is plenty to love about strawberries. And there are many nutritional benefits to help define them as aphrodisiacs.

The hefty dose of vitamin C strawberries serve up may increase blood flow. (A one-cup serving of strawberries offers more than 100% of the daily value of this important vitamin.) Good blood flow not only helps to make for a healthy heart; just what the doctor ordered for a healthy heart.

Lets find out more of this favourite red fruit.

In ancient Rome, strawberries were considered the symbol of Venus, the goddess of love, because of its bright red colour and enticing taste. Later, the berry became a symbol of fertility due to its many exterior seeds. Legend has it that when two people split a strawberry, they’ll fall in love.

Nutritionists say, Vitamin C also promotes the production of estrogen. Strawberries contain several minerals known to support a healthy sex drive, including magnesium and potassium.

The fruit is also a source of folate, one of the most important nutrients for couples trying to conceive. Strawberries also contain several antioxidants beyond vitamin C that are linked to good heart health. Per research, strawberries are also an excellent source of magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, potassium, folate and vitamin K.

A 100- gram serving of strawberries contains 91 calories-, 0.67gram protein, fat 0.3gram, 7.68grams carbohydrates, 2 grams fiber and 4.89grams of sugar. Whether or not strawberries are truly the aphrodisiac they are said to be, there is no denying their appeal on the plate.

This makes them ideal as a simple tool of seduction. I spoke to some folks who love to indulge in strawberries. Most of them describe the fruit as a power house, while others say, it is a good source of vitamin C.

Strawberries are the perfect shape and size for dipping in chocolate or whipped cream. For those with an extra sweet tooth, serve strawberries dipped in milk, cream or melted chocolate.

Their seductive colouring also make such sweet company. So, you can also gift your loved one a bouquet of strawberry during this month of love.
