Suspected secessionists leader Kudzordzi granted bail; 7 others charged

The Commercial Court Division of the Accra High Court has admitted leader of the Homeland Study Group  Foundation, Charles  Kudzodzi  to a bail sum of GH¢250,000 with two sureties, one to be justified.

The 80 year old retired educationist and leader of the Ho group, said to be planning to declare independence for the Volta Region, Charles Kormi Kudzodzi, alias Papavi Hogbedetor, is also expected to report to the Police twice in a week.

However, the court has remanded the remaining  seven including; Besa Amedeus Akorli, Blay Kaku Freeman, Nkpe Tornye Kudjo, Thomson Tsigbe, Agbenyega Akudzi, Dzereke Kofi and Benjamin Agbodzagah were remanded into Prison custody to reappear on May 22, 2019.

They have been charged with Conspiracy to commit crime, treason felony, treason, abetment of unlawful training, unlawful assembly and offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace.

The Homeland Study Group Foundation, a Separatists movement in the Volta Region is a group calling for the separation of the Volta Region from Ghana.

The group claims the Volta Region formerly Western Togoland was an independent State before being to join Ghana in the plebiscite.

The group was arrested at one of the groups meeting last Sunday and brought to Accra by the National Security.
