Business people in the five Regions of the North have been advised to take advantage of the 10 million Ghana Cedis earmarked by the Ghana Export and Import Bank (EXIM Bank) for the shea industry in the country.

The President of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), Nana Dr. Appiagyei Dankawoso gave the advice when he met the business community of Upper West in Wa as part of his duty tour of the Region.

GBC’s Emmanuel Mensah-Abludo reports that the occasion was also used to inaugurate the Regional Council of GCCI, with Juatie Duori Bennin as the Chairman.

Nana Dankawoso indicated that capacity building for members is high on the agenda of the Chamber and shared his vision to set up a business school in that direction.

“It is one of my visions to make sure that we set up a business school and as part of that we need to start from somewhere. So we need to build the capacities of members,” he stressed.

Nana Dankawoso  added that: “The business school is not to raise members on academic lines, but to build ourselves up in the businesses that we do. We learn business and if you dont learn, [it will impact on how well you will do]. Someone who has been in business for about 25years and somebody who want to enter business, I think their experiences are not the same and so we bring people with in-depth experiences, and knowledge to train and then also have peer teaching among ourselves.”

The President of GCCI stressed the need for those in business to trust one another and pool their resources together in order to stand the challenges of the business sector.

Nana Dankawoso said: “So let us see how best we can come together, form cooperatives and networks. …We should not rest on our oars, let see how best we can trust ourselves, it is one big thing that is killing us as Ghanaians and Africans.”

The Chief Executive Officer of GCCI, Mark Badu-Aboagye asked the people in Upper West to channel their grievances through the Regional Executive Secretary of the Chamber, Jeremiah Bontaiba Tengan.

The Assistant Northern Area Manager of adb, Felix Segu Eshun who made a presentation on Funding Your Business at the meeting entreated business people to endeavour to balance their books every month and also make sure that they understand their financial statements.

As part of his working visit, Nana Dankawoso paid a courtesy call on the Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, where they discussed areas of mutual cooperation.

Dr. Bin Salih assured the President of GCCI of the Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs) support to the Chamber.
