Teachers have been called to show greater commitment and love for their pupils and work to impart quality knowledge to them.

Reverend Mrs Evelyn Adu-Dapaah, Director of Glory Vel School, in Kumasi, who made the call, said teachers should eschew laziness, absenteeism, have patience and show interest in every child entrusted in their care.

A child-friendly atmosphere should be created in the classroom to help boost the morale of children and make them remain in school at all times.

Rev Adu-Dapaah was speaking at the 16th graduation ceremony of the school at Kotei, in the Kumasi metropolis.

The ceremony, under the theme: “A sound mind and a healthy body: Necessary for every child”, was held for pupils who have graduated from nursery two to stage one and those from stage six to Junior High School (JHS) one.

It coincided with the Christmas Carols Service of the school.

Rev Adu-Dapaah said teachers needed to inculcate discipline and good moral values in their children to enable them become responsible adults.

She also urged parents to have time with their children at home, provide them with their needs and supervise their homework.

Rev Adu-Dapaah said the school, which was established in 1994, was noted for giving good academic training with useful Christian values to children.

It has consistently scored 100 per cent with distinctions in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE), and has come tops in many Spelling ‘B’ competitions.

She said the school has excellent boarding facilities with state of the art computer, science laboratories and a library.

Rev Adu-Dapaah expressed gratitude to the teaching and non-teaching staff and advised them to up-grade themselves.

Mr Samuel Boye, head teacher of the school, called on the teachers to strive to be sensitive and make a positive impact on the children.

He said a formidable partnership and effective collaboration between teachers and parents would ensure that children were equipped academically, morally, spiritually and socially.

Mr Richard Nsiah, Treasurer for the Parents/Teachers Association (PTA) of the school, called on government to show keen interest in private schools because they also contribute to the development of the country.

He said government must provide them with well-trained teachers, logistics and monitor them for improved service delivery.

Take your studies seriously, take advantage of the free Senior High School (SHS) policy implemented by the government and pass the BECE, Mr Nsiah urged the pupils.
