More than 80kg of marijuana has been discovered on a bus contracted to transport São Paulo FC during the Brazilian club’s trip to Bolivia, prompting a police investigation. Bolivian authorities stopped the vehicle near Cochabamba and found four large sacks containing about 86.5kg of marijuana hidden inside.
Club-branded vehicle, but no players on board
The bus, operated by logistics company Buses Cosmos and carrying São Paulo’s colours, had been hired to move the team around Bolivia for their Copa Sudamericana fixture against Bolívar. It was intercepted before any players or staff boarded, and São Paulo later stressed that the squad never used the bus involved in the seizure.
Drivers detained, investigation ongoing
Local reports say at least two drivers and other individuals linked to the vehicle have been detained as Bolivia’s anti-narcotics unit investigates the source and destination of the drugs. São Paulo FC and the transport company have distanced themselves from the trafficking, while the club’s logistics were rearranged with an alternative bus so their match schedule could continue.
