President Donald Trump has launched a sharp attack on several US media outlets for publishing a leaked intelligence assessment about the recent strikes on Iran.
Speaking at a NATO summit, Trump called the media “scum” and singled out CNN and The New York Times for reporting on the classified Pentagon review. The leaked report from the Defense Intelligence Agency estimated that the strikes set Iran’s nuclear programme back by only a “few months” — far less than the “decades” Trump had claimed.
Trump defended his description of the strikes as causing the “obliteration” of Iran’s nuclear sites, saying it was a strong word but one that Israel has also used. He insisted that the US attacks had caused significant damage and criticized those questioning the scale of the impact.
Although the press conference has ended, tensions remain high between the Trump administration and the media. Meanwhile, the fragile ceasefire between Israel and Iran appears to be holding, as uncertainty and fears about the future continue to grow within Iran.
