The National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE), has defended its report which states that some lecturers and administrators in Technical Universities do not have the required academic qualifications.
A nationwide audit into the eight technical universities to migrate them on to the conditions of service for Public Universities showed that some of the lecturers were teaching with online degrees which are not accepted by the Council.
Due to this, most of them cannot be moved unto the conditions of service of Public Universities, a situation which has not gone down well with some of the lecturers.
In an interview on GBC’s ‘Behind the News’, the Executive Secretary of NTCE, Mohmammed Salifu, said lecturers who were queried based on the report have been given the opportunity to petition.
Meanwhile, the Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana, TUTAG, has questioned the report saying it is fraught with infractions.
President of the Association, Dr. Solomon Keelson in an interview on GBC’s ‘Behind the News’, said the audit by the NCTE should have taken into consideration the criteria for recruiting and promoting in Technical Universities.
