Two Assin SHS students die of meningitis

Two students from Assin SHS have died of meningitis due to an outbreak of the disease in the area.

According to the Health Directorate, all students have been screened and the situation is under control.

At a press briefing in Cape Coast, a Director of Public Health, Dr Kwabena Sarpong entreated the public to report any sign of nausea, headache, fever and vomiting to avoid further complications as a result of the outbreak.

On how the Region has positioned itself in response to the coronavirus, Dr Sarpong said though Ghana is safe, all regional and district health services have been trained to identify any person with symptoms of the virus.

He also used the occasion to announce a nationwide polio vaccine exercise from the 19th to the 25th of this month for all children between the ages of one and nine months to four years.

He said the vaccine is the safest with few reactions to some children and entreated the public to be part of this important exercise to help eradicate polio completely.
