The Upper West Regional Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in accordance with Article 3(7) (1) of the party’s constitution has suspended the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency Chairman Martin Andonye. The Suspension follows a petition by some members of the Party in the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency submitted to the Regional Disciplinary Committee against their Chairman.

In a statement signed by the Regional Chairman of the NPP, S. B. Kangbere, the Regional Executive committee explained that Mr Andonye “has arbitrarily and unilaterally revoked the appointments of some constituency executives,” a situation they said cannot be condoned.

The statement continued to say that “we are aware that as an appointing authority, he has the right to revoke the appointment of any officer who misconducts him/herself. However, this power must be exercised responsibly and in accordance with due process as spelt out by the party’s constitution.”

“The Chairman’s continuous disregard for party structures and failure to consult the Regional Executive Committee in such important disciplinary matters can no longer be tolerated.”

The statement stressed that the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency Chairman’s suspension of other constituency executives is tantamount to an illegality and therefore “all such officers [who were suspended] remain members of the constituency executive committee and should continue to work for the growth of the party in the Nadowli-Kaleo constituency.”

The party’s Disciplinary Committee is expected to look into the matter and called for the collaboration of all party members.

Meanwhile, some supposed members of the party who were not happy about the suspension of the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency Chairman Martin Andonye have registered their complaint against the Regional Chairman and the Executive Committee of the party by sticking posters that read ‘Kangbere is autocratic,’ ‘Reinstate Chairman Martin,’ among others at the Regional Office of the NPP.
