U/W Region: Nandom is 1st district to host regional Independence anniversary parade

The Upper West version of the of the 62nd Independence parade had a double-layer icing on the anniversary cake.

For the first time, Nandom hosted the regional parade, taking the event outside Wa whilst two delegations, one from Burkina Faso led by Colonel Tagssêla Nitiema with Joseph Kpan Droh leading the other delegation from Côte d’Ivoire.

The out-going Upper West Regional Minister, Alhaji Sulemana Alhassan who reviewed the parade said the Region is making progress in the implementation of the planting for food and jobs (PFJ).

He added that the PFJ has received massive support from farmers and attracted young people into farming for the first time in Upper West.

Alhaji Alhassan expressed worry about the number of conflicts in the Region and entreated the people to be guided by the resolution of peace in Dagbon and resort to dialogue to settle their differences.

The DCE for Nandom Thaddeus Arkum Aasoglenang was beside himself with joy that the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council had made his District to be the first to host the regional independence celebration outside the capital.

He commented on the sister-city relationship which had enabled delegations from Burkina Faso and LA Cote d’Ivoire to be part of the event in Nandom.

Mr. Aasoglenang appealed to the Nandom Traditional Council to support the District Assembly for it bring more development to the people.

The parade was under the command of ASP Adongo Apiiya.

During the March past,St. Andrews Junior High School and St. Cecilia Kindergarten were some of the schools which were the toast of the spectators.
