The Chief Executive Officer of Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA), Kwasi Agyeman Busia, says the authority is on the verge of piloting a system to fully regulate the use of private vehicles for ridesharing commercial activities such as uber and taxify.
The changes will include a clearer identification, a faster registration and the twice a year renewal of road worthiness of such vehicles.
He dropped the hint at the inauguration of a newly constructed Eastern Regional office for the Authority in Koforidua.
He further stated that they are also looking at the infusion of technology for speed and convenience in the tertiary drive project to make it simple and easy for tertiary students to get driver licenses before they graduate from school.
That aside, he said, the introduction of a voice over in six local languages which are Ga, Akan, Ewe, Dagbani, Hausa and Nzima in their computer test will be implemented in September this year.
This, he said will make it easier for those without formal education to fully comprehend the computer based test question.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour, appealed to the DVLA in the region to always do due diligence in issuing of driver licenses.
He said the spate of accidents on the roads are worrying adding that some of the causes are due to reckless driving.
He called for more background tests of people who apply for driving license in order not to put the lives of passengers and other road users in danger.
