UEW to reopen April 8

University of Education, Winneba is to reopen on Monday, April 8, after violent student protests caused its closure.

Students are expected to report to school on April 9, for academic activities to resume.

The Governing Council said it finds the current state of the University very worrying as it does not augur well for the institution.

The decision to re-open following wide consultations is to ensure lasting peaceful environment for academic work to be established on all campuses.

The Governing Council has also reinstated all three lecturers sacked by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Anthony Afful-Broni. Prof Ephraim Avea Nsoh, Dr Emmanuel Osei Sarpong, and Dr Frimpong Kwaku Duku, have all been reinstated to their various ranks in the University effective Thursday.

The Governing Council said it has tasked the University’s Management and Academic Board to review its Calendar to cater for the loss of time and ensure that staff and students work together to return academic work to normalcy.
