British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s official visit to China has marked a significant step forward in relations between the two nations.
Meeting with President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Starmer emphasized the importance of building a long-term and consistent comprehensive strategic partnership.
The talks focused on strengthening dialogue and cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, finance, environment, and security. Both leaders highlighted the mutual benefits of economic and cultural exchanges, with China offering positive consideration for visa-free access for UK travelers.
The visit, accompanied by a delegation of around 60 business and cultural representatives, aims to boost UK-China cooperation in sectors like education, health, finance, and technology.
Discussions also touched on global challenges, including climate change and the need for a more just and equitable global governance system.
Starmer’s visit, the first by a British Prime Minister in eight years, underscores the UK’s commitment to deepening ties with China.
The leaders exchanged views on Taiwan, Hong Kong, and other international issues, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining peace and stability.
