UK reiterates partnership with Ghana on security, business development

The United Kingdom (UK) has reiterated its commitment towards supporting Ghana to remain stable and peaceful. This would be done by studying and understanding the cultural and political diversities in Ghana while proffering partnerships in areas of security, regional stability and business development.

The Head of Political and Communications at the British High Commission in Accra, Joseph Whittle, said: “Ghana’s political and economic stability offer a better avenue for investment from the UK.”

He said this when he paid a courtesy call on the Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih and members of the Upper West Regional Security Council (REGSEC). Mr Whittle said the Commission understands that Ghana is much bigger than Accra thus the need to pay visits to other parts of country.

The Head of Political and Communications at the British High Commission in Accra said the Commission in its visit to the Upper West Region is to engage stakeholders in the upcoming 2020 election, regional stability and the UK’s prosperity agenda.

The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, told the team from the British High Commission in Accra that Upper West is peaceful and politically stable region despite the threats of terrorism in neighbouring Burkina Faso.

Dr Bin Salih said it is critical that Ghana remains ready and committed to ensuring that the terrorism within the borders of its neighbour, Burkina Faso does not spill into the country.

To this end, the Minister called on for alliances between the UK and Ghana security agencies in sharing of information and training of personnel.

During the working visit to the Upper West Region, the Head of Political and Communications at the British High Commission is expected to meet some Civil Society Organisations and the media.
