A Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana Professor Godfred Bokpin has attributed Ghana’s economic woes to the inability to generate adequate revenues.

He said addressing the core issues confronting revenue mobilization has not been successful, stressing that only about one point five million people pay tax out of the about six million who fall within the tax net.

Professor Bokpin was speaking on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme “Talking Point” which discussed the nation’s economy.

He said the fundamentals of the economy have been undermined leading to the creation of economic indiscipline to a large extent.

Mr. William Demitia, a Senior Partner of ALINAKYEA and Associates also noted that there are tax compliance challenges which must be addressed.

He said what Ghana needs is an expansion of the economy and enforcement of existing tax laws.
