It has emerged that only about 23 percent of students from the Upper West Region who take part in the WASSCE are able to pass with flying colours.
Due to the low grades, most students are unable to further their education to the tertiary level.
The Regional Director of Education, Evans Kpebah expressed worry about the situation saying despite several interventions by the Service to improve the falling education standards, little has been achieved.
Mr Kpebah was speaking at the launch of the Silver Jubilee of the Jirapa Senior High school at Jirapa in the Upper West Region.
The Jirapa Senior High School was founded in 1994 with the aim of delivering quality education to students in Jirapa and its environs. The school which began with a student population of 126, now has a total population of 1,280 along with 132 teaching and non-teaching staff.
The Upper West Regional Director of Education, Evans Kpebah, encouraged management of the various senior high schools to liaise with the board of directors and the education service, to ensure better results from students.
The Headmaster of the School, Primus Baro, thanked the Jirapa Municipal Assembly for handing over a 3 seater WC toilet facility to the school to improve the sanitary condition.
He however reminded the Assembly to fulfill its promise to construct the roads leading to the school.
The Deputy Upper West Regional Minster, Amidu Issahaku Chinnia, asked the teachers to remain committed to ensuring that students do the right thing.
The launch of the silver jubilee was attended by staff, present and old students and directors of education from the municipality and region.
