Upper West gets new Regional Chief Imam

Alhaji Osman Mahama Kanihi has been inducted into office as the Upper West Regional Chief Imam in a colorful ceremony at the Wa Naa’s Palace.

The investiture of new Regional Chief Imam who is an octogenarian drew a large cheerful crowd of people, majority of them in white to Palace locally referred to as “Nayiri”.

The 87-year-old Alhaji Kanihi is the 32nd person to be installed as Chief Imam when the tradition began almost 370 years ago.

The Regional Chief Imam position became vacate when the 31st holder of the office, Alhaji Issahaku Yakubu went home to the ancestors last year.

Reports have it that the predecessor of the new Chief Imam, the Late Alhaji Yakubu was sworn into office in the early 1980s.

The MCE for Wa, Alhaji Tahiru Issahaku Moomin who was at the investiture congratulated the new Regional Chief Imam Alhaji Osman Mahama Kanihi for the elevation and wish him well.

The Waa Naa, Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo graced the occasion.
