Upsurge in the number of health officials contracting COVID-19, blamed on not wearing face mask

The Acting Bono regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Amo Kodie has attributed the increase in the number of Health officials contracting COVID-19 to the frequent touching and not adhering to the wearing of face masks by health officials in the Region.

According to him the familiarity syndrome of knowing a patient and by not wearing the mask has affected them and for that matter measures are being put in place to correct it. Dr. Amo Kodie was speaking in an interview with Radio Ghana after the launch of the 11th National Service Person Association (NASPA) Annual Mini Congress in Sunyani.

The 11th Annual Mini Congress which was on the theme” Combating Covid-19, the Role of National Service Personnel” saw executives of NASPA drawn from the 16 regions of the country meeting in Sunyani to deliberate on COVID-19 and other matters of concern to NASPA.

It also created the platform for them executives to deliberate on new ways of approaching issues and resolving them accordingly. Also in attendance were the MCEs for Sunyani Municipal and West Assemblies and MP for Sunyani East. Kwasi Ameyaw Cheremeh who doubles as the Majority Chief Whip.

Addressing the gathering, the National President of NASPA, Owusu Afriyie Osei announced that the executives of NASPA upon deliberations have resolved to make donations of PPEs to the various communities within their jurisdictions in a bid to help in the fight against COVID-19.

Speaker after speaker stressed the need for Service Personnel to be ambassadors of educating the public on COVID-19.

The Acting Bono Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Amo Kodie in an interview said, 426 cases of COVID-19 has been recorded in the region with 231 being health workers.

He said, about 230 of the health workers have recovered with the remaining one responding to treatment while on self-isolation. Dr Amo Kodie said even though the PPEs are there, health workers are not adhering to the COVID-19 safety protocols.

He attributed the increase in the number of Health officials infected with the virus to the frequent touching and not wearing of face masks by health officials in the region.

He said the recovery rate of the 426 cases is almost 100 percent and called on all to adhere to the safety protocols of COVID-19. The executives of NSAPA after the launch donated some PPEs to some SHS in the Sunyani Municipality.
