The Volta Regional Police Command has identified more than 300 flashpoints in the region as it prepares for the referendum for the Creation of new regions which will be held on December 27.

According to the Command, although it has been receiving threats from some persons who do not want the referendum to take place, it is collaborating with the military in the area to ensure adequate security during the referendum.

There have been agitations in the region over government’s decision to create the new Oti region with some parties saying they will resist any attempt to have the region partitioned.

Speaking at the launch of its Operation Father Christmas campaign, however the Volta Regional Police Commander DCOP Francis Ebenezer Doku assured the public of maximum security.

He said apart from the referendum, the police are also working to beef up security in the region during this year’s Christmas festivities which is just a month away.
