Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has paid tribute to Ghana’s farmers, calling them the backbone of the nation whose daily work sustains households, communities, and the wider economy.

In a message shared on her social media to mark this year’s Farmers’ Day, the Vice President said the occasion is an opportunity to honour the men and women whose labour “feeds our nation and sustains our daily lives.”

She highlighted the resilience and dedication of farmers across the country, noting that their work embodies dignity, hope, and the promise of each agricultural season.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang placed special emphasis on the contributions of women in agriculture, many of whom go to the farms daily to provide for their families. Their commitment, she said, inspires efforts to build systems that support farmers, protect livelihoods, and expand opportunities within the sector.

The Vice President also reaffirmed government’s dedication to policies that strengthen agriculture, ensure fair and equitable returns, and promote dignified working conditions for those in the industry.

“As we celebrate Farmers’ Day, we renew both our gratitude and our responsibility,” she said, adding a prayer for God’s blessings on the nation and the farmers who cultivate its soil.

This year’s celebration underscores the vital role of farmers in national development and the importance of sustained investment in agriculture.
