A total of 139,943 people in the Volta Region have been issued with the new voter card by the Electoral Commission (EC) to make them eligible voters for the December general elections.

The breakdown stands as 20,392 for the sixth day, 21,405 for day five and 25,913 for day four with the first three days recording 72,257 new cards.

Mr Dogbey Adukpo Selormey, Volta Regional Director of EC, said the exercise had been generally incident-free.

He said there was a shift in the movement plans of the EC to continue with the second batch of phase one, dropping the phase two to a later date, but failed to assign reasons for the change.

He responded in the affirmative to a question of whether the infrared thermometer gun had captured any suspicious COVID-19 candidate.

Meanwhile, at the Local Authority R. C. Primary at Ho Leprosarium Centre on Sunday, when the first phase terminated, the EC issued some 179 new cards making the total for that Centre 810, according to Ms Belinda Kwabena-Dorvi, the Centre’s Registration Officer.

She disclosed that some 45 registrants could not be attended to by the close of 1800 hours mark.

She said the last day witnessed some clumsiness in observing the health and social safety protocols as the registrants were eager to be issued with the cards and therefore disregarded all education to distance themselves.
