The Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association GIBA, has partly blamed the lack of continuity in governance for the brouhaha in the StarTimes DTT deal.
According to the Association, the change in top positions in the discussion and negotiations led to the truncation of certain agreements creating a situation where important actors in the process were sidelined.
GIBA had raised issues with the handing of the DTT infrastructure to StarTimes together with millions of dollars in waivers.
GIBA said, the policy will put local broadcasters at a disadvantage, and distort the pay-tv market.
This forced a meeting among the Communications Ministry, GIBA and Parliament’s Communication Committee, after which an agreement was reached.
Speaking on GBC’S Current Affairs Program “Talking Point” which discussed the DTT and Startime deal, President of GIBA,, Andrew Danso Aninkasa said they are satisfied with the agreement reached.
President of IMANI-Africa, Franklyn Cudjoe said government should have paid off Startimes instead of delving into areas they should not have.
A representative of the Ministry of Communications, Eric Amoako Twum was unable to confirm or deny whether Startimes was involved in Ghana’s DTT Infrastructure.
