“People must remain at the center of all local government reforms, that is what democracy is about, people centered to deliver the needs of the people”, to ensure that at the end of the day there is the human satisfaction bit to life.

These are the views of Journalism Lecturer, Dr. Etse Sikanku as he moderated one of the GJA/STAR-Ghana Local Government  Television programs, “WE THE PEOPLE, which discussed the topic; ”Election of MMDCEs and Development.

Dr. Sikanku said he has no doubt that human being should be at the heart of development and therefore the discussions and conversations about electing MMDCEs should focus on how to bring development closer to the doorstep of the people, especially those in outlandish areas.

He pointed out that the government’s intention to ensure that Metropolitan, Municipal, and District, Chief Executives, (MMDCEs’) are elected along party lines is a very ”crucial and important” conversation to have and all Ghanaians must get on board to ensure that they are part of the process.

Dr. Etse Sikanku expressed gratitude to the sponsors of WE THE PEOPLE platform , STAR-Ghana Foundation, explaining that the program is meant to deepen accountability and responsiveness of duty bearers in Local governance and above all help to foster cordial relationship between Ghanaian CSOs and the Media for Local Governance Accountability.
