WHO assures gov't of its continuous commitment to funding sanitaion projects in Ghana

The World Health Organization, (WHO) has assured government of its continuous commitment to funding projects geared towards Sanitation and hygiene issues in the country.

The organisation already has projects such as Water Sanitation and Hygiene, (WASH), programme, disaster projects, WASH Track Feet which looks at tracking funding to the water and sanitation sector among other projects.

The WASH Track Feet helps to advocate for more funding and support to sectors revolving around sanitation,water and hygiene.

The WHO representative Dr. Owen Laws Kaluwa made this known when he paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Sanitation Cecilia Dapaah in Accra.

The call on the Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, is to afford the WHO the opportunity to brief the minister on existing projects the WHO is partnering with the Ministry and to invite her to a high level meeting on Sanitation,Water and Hygiene with focus on SDG 3 and 6 next week to be held in Accra.

Dr. Kaluwa said the WHO will at the meeting launch a WASH strategy that will guide in the implementation of sanitation and hygiene from 2018 to 2025.

The Minister of Sanitation Cecilia Abena Dapaah expressed government’s commitment to continue working with the WHO and it’s partners.

She called for more funding of sector to help deal with especially sanitation issues. She also accepted to be the guest of honour at the WHO high level meeting to be held on the October 16 to 18.
